OUR SURGEONS
Dr. Alan M. Kozarsky MD
Board Certified
Dr. Kozarsky is one of the leading corneal, cataract, and vision correction specialists
in the country, and was selected by Atlanta Magazine as the best ophthalmologist
in Atlanta. He was also voted by his peers to be listed in the Best
Doctors in America. He is head of the cornea division at Eye Consultants
of Atlanta, Inc., a large multispecialty ophthalmology practice in Atlanta,
GA, where he specializes in corneal transplants, anterior segment diseases,
cataract surgery and refractive surgery.
He has performed refractive, corneal transplant, and cataract surgery
for over twenty-five years, and was selected to be the Medical Monitor
for the Summit Omnimed LASIK clinical trial study. Dr. Kozarsky is now
the Medical Director for Piedmont Better Vision, a cooperative
venture refractive practice between Piedmont Hospital and physicians
from Eye Consultants of Atlanta.
Dr. Kozarsky received
his MD degree from Albert Einstein University in 1978, and went on to
complete his ophthalmology residency at Albert Einstein University in
1982. He completed a clinical fellowship in cornea and anterior segment
surgery at the Emory University School of Medicine in 1984, prior to
joining the Emory Faculty as the Director of Residency Training and
Postgraduate Education. In 1987 he joined Eye Consultants of Atlanta,
Inc. where he has developed one of the largest private cornea practices
in the country. He was appointed Clinical Associate Professor by the
Emory University School of Medicine.
In addition
to his private practice, he is currently Medical Director of the Georgia
Eye Bank, where he also serves as a member of the Board of Directors.
He flies every year to Honduras for missionary work where he performs
up to 200 eye surgeries on indigent Hondurans.
Dr. Kozarsky
has published over 30 articles and lectured throughout the United States
and Latin America, and is currently a reviewer for many ophthalmology
journals.
Dr. Kozarsky
has a special interest in aviation and its interface with vision correction
procedures. Accordingly, he enjoys seeing pilots in consultation and
has performed many laser vision correction and implant procedures on
private, professional and military aviators.
He is
an avid multiengine/instrument pilot. In fact, flying is probably his
greatest love next to his wife Julie and his three children, Caroline,
Eliot, and Aaron.

Dr. William B. Lee MD
Board Certified
W. Barry Lee, M.D., joins Piedmont Better Vision with distinguished
fellowship-training in Corneal & Refractive Surgery. Dr. Lee routinely
performs refractive surgery with Piedmont Better Vision and cataract
and corneal transplant surgery at Eye Consultants of Atlanta, P.C.
A native of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Dr. Lee spent his childhood and
early adult life in and around Lexington, Kentucky. He graduated with
highest distinction and Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Kentucky,
where he remained to earn a medical degree with highest distinction.
He completed a one-year internship at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center
in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and returned to the University of Kentucky
to complete three years of intense surgical training with the Department
of Ophthalmology residency program. Dr. Lee was honored and chosen by
the faculty to serve as Chief Resident within the department in his
final year.
Following completion of residency, Dr. Lee was honored as Fellow in
Cornea & External Eye Disease and Cataract & Refractive Surgery
at the University of California, Davis Department of Ophthalmology in
Sacramento, California. He spent this prestigious year of intense surgical
and medical training with world-renowned corneal specialists, Drs. Mark
Mannis and Ivan Schwab, while serving as a clinical instructor for the
residency training program.
Dr. Lee remains actively involved in ophthalmic-related research activities
with scientific presentations, numerous publications in peer-reviewed
ophthalmology journals, and eight book chapters on corneal and refractive
surgery topics. He actively participates in teaching and training of
ophthalmologists with the cornea fellowship program at Eye Consultants
of Atlanta.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract
& Refractive Surgery, and International Society of Refractive Surgery
are among some of Dr. Lees professional organization memberships. Dr.
Lee's offices are located at Piedmont Hospital and Paces Pavilion, and
he also regularly travels to various locations in Georgia for consultations,
including Macon, Milledgeville, and Rome.

Dr. Stephen Hamilton MD
Board Certified
Dr. Hamilton is a fellowship
trained corneal specialist at Eye Consultants of Atlanta, Inc., the
largest, private, multi-specialty ophthalmology practice in Atlanta,
GA. He specializes in refractive surgery as well as cataract surgery
with multifocal IOL technology, LASIK, corneal transplantation, and
anterior segment reconstructive procedures.
Considered one of the top young eye surgeons in Atlanta, Dr. Hamilton
has been selected by his peers to be included in "Best
Doctors in America" for each of the last six years, an honor which
includes only 5% of all doctors in the United States. He has seen patients
in Atlanta, Marietta, Athens, Carrollton, Rome, and Macon as a consulting
corneal specialist with other ophthalmology practices throughout the
state. Distinguished by his personable manner, Dr. Hamilton has a dedicated
patient following throughout Georgia and in surrounding states.
Dr. Hamilton has been practicing ophthalmology since 1990. He was one
of Emory Vision's attending surgeons for more than 6 years, until the
opening of Piedmont Better Vision in 2003. He has performed thousands
of LASIK and refractive procedures, and many local and national figures,
fellow physicians and eye doctors have chosen Dr. Hamilton as their
surgeon. In 2004 he was awarded the Centurion Surgeon and Quality of
Vision award By Alcon, the Ladar Vision Corporation, for his superior
refractive surgical results. He has extensive experience in modern
cataract surgical techniques including implantation of the premium multifocal
implants, ReSTOR, ReZoom, and Crystalens, and is
one of the few surgeons in Atlanta to be fully credentialed by Eyeonics
to implant the Crystalens. He received
his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Auburn University, and
his M.D. degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB).
Postgraduate training included a medical-surgical internship at Carraway
Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, and an ophthalmology residency
at the Eye Foundation Hospital (UAB), where he served as chief resident.
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Hamilton pursued additional training
through a fellowship in cornea and external disease at Eye Consultants
of Atlanta. This year of advanced training included extensive experience
in corneal transplant and anterior segment and refractive surgery, following
which he joined this distinguished group. Dr. Hamilton is affiliated
with Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA and has surgical privileges at
various hospitals throughout Georgia, where he works as a consultant.
Dr. Hamilton has served as a clinical instructor of Ophthalmology at
Emory University where he was involved in the teaching of advanced techniques
in corneal and cataract surgery. He has been on the Medical Advisory
Committee of the Georgia Eye Bank since 1999. Dr. Hamilton was an investigator
in the national HEDS group (Herpetic Eye Disease Study) at Emory University,
and is a local investigator in the national Corneal Donor Study and
Fuchs Dystrophy Genetic Study. Keeping abreast of new advances in the
field of ophthalmology, he is the chief investigator in a study of special
intraocular lens in patients following severe ocular trauma. He has
authored or co-authored numerous publications and presentations on various
topics in Ophthalmology including corneal disease, ocular trauma, LASIK
and surgical techniques, and was one of the first surgeons in the United
States to implant the AlphaCor artificial cornea.
Dr. Hamilton has donated his gifts and services both locally and in
less developed countries, including Honduras and Kenya, providing
surgery for the blind and the poor. He has an ongoing relationship with
the Lost Boys of Sudan, and Childspring International. His generous
spirit is also represented by giving to the Atlanta community, including
raising funds for local charities and organizations, and playing the
drums weekly for the Life Teen Mass at Christ the King.

Dr.
Evan Loft MD
Board Eligible
Dr. Loft’s clinical expertise includes refractive surgery, cataract
surgery, corneal transplantation, and the management of cornea and external
disease. He performs surgery at Piedmont
Better Vision, Eye Consultants of Atlanta, P.C., and the McDonnell Surgery Center
at Piedmont
Hospital.
A
native of Georgia, Dr. Loft was born in Augusta
and spent his childhood in Atlanta.
He graduated magna cum laude with high honors and Phi Beta Kappa from
the University of Georgia, receiving his Bachelor of Science
degree in Microbiology. Dr. Loft received
his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, followed by
a one-year internship in General Surgery at Atlanta
Medical Center.
Dr.
Loft completed his residency at the Emory University Department
of Ophthalmology, where he received intensive surgical training at Emory
University Hospital, Emory Vision, Grady
Memorial Hospital, Children’s Healthcare of
Atlanta, and the Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center. Following completion of his ophthalmology residency, Dr.
Loft was honored as Fellow in Cornea, External disease, and Refractive
surgery at Emory while also serving as
a clinical and surgical instructor for the Emory ophthalmology residency
training program.
Dr.
Loft has given presentations on LASIK and refractive surgery at numerous
international ophthalmology meetings. He
has also published numerous articles in peer-reviewed ophthalmology
journals and has authored chapters for ophthalmology reference books
and other sources.
Dr.
Loft is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the
American
Academy of Ophthalmology,
American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and Cornea Society. Dr. Loft’s offices are located at Piedmont Hospital and Paces Pavilion, and he regularly
travels to various locations in Georgia for consultations, including
Athens,
Rome,
and Carrollton.

Loft and his wife, Sara, live in Atlanta
with their son, Dylan.
